Some years back I participated an all Mozart concert at the Recital Hall at Suntory Hall. The first half of the show was straight Mozart, the second half was jazz arrangements of a few different Mozart pieces. The singer who put the concert on asked me to do something with one of the pieces, so I arranged this aria for piano, bass and percussion. I was pretty happy with the way it came out, and didn't want the piece to languish after only one performance. So when I began the MT6 project, I decided to try to adapt the arrangement for the sextet, featuring alto sax on the melody.
